California Pay Transparency Law

Since January 1, 2023, employers with 15+ employees (range on request for all employers) in California must provide: pay scale in all job postings, including postings via third parties. Employees may also request the pay scale for their own position (Labor Code ยง432.3).

How to use this law when negotiating

The posted range tells you the employer's budget โ€” anchor near its top. Then cross-check against the federal payroll data for your role: if the posting tops out below the market P75, that gap is your documented case for more. Look up your market rate on the salary pages or check if you're underpaid.
